Syringes and Sugar Cookies

This week Daddy's tummy was all healed up from his appendix surgery and it was time for him to go back to work. We've had to get used to it being just us girls again after 3 1/2 awesome weeks with him home. (Although he would probably tend to say that the night in the hospital and days proceeding were not quite so awesome) This is how Buggy wears her coats now. When you tell her to put her arms in she is very insistent that this is the RIGHT way to do it. :) She's her own little person and she walks to the beat of her own drum...and I love it!
You know those water bottles I showed you a while back? Well ever since the stockings were opened they've been in CONSTANT use! Sipping out of a straw just happens to be pretty cool beans when you're 1!
Why, hello, little lady! Your teeth are quite fancy!
As you all know, I have a slight obsession with my baby feet...well I also kind of have an obsession with eyes. I truly believe eyes are the window to the soul. I have pictures of TONS of eyes from animals I worked with at the zoo. I just love them...the color, the expression, the uniqueness. I took this one of Havyn's big blues and I kind of dig it.
These kisses just keep getting better and better. That better stop by the time she's a teenager! :)
Bug is kind of a picky eater but we've discovered that this girl LOVES her some fruit smoothies. So smoothies it is...a girl after her mama's heart!
I love it when the girls play together. They have their own little conversations. Sometimes they even use real words! :)
Havyn knows how to use the camera. She turns it on and takes all sorts of pictures. So when I go to upload my pictures every night there are usually a few that look something like this.
Our Dora collection is growing! We've got Dora, Dora everywhere! The other night I was tucking Em into bed. She sleeps with a stuffed Dora (she picked it out herself and it was the FIRST stuffed animals she wasn't afraid of), a bear blanket my mom bought her and Jon took to Africa for her, and a stuffed Scentsy Buddy elephant named Ellie. Sounds like a party, right? So the other night I'm tucking her into bed and I give her Ellie and her bear...but I can't find Dora anywhere (gasp). I think to myself, "she won't notice!" This is how the conversations went- Me- night night, love you. Em- No...Dora? Me- I can't find Dora (as I scour the room for her). I then find her under the bed and tuck her in. Em- Thank you, Mommy. Night night. Yep this girl loves her Dora, and yes she is a smarty pants. :)
Speaking of love...Bug has got some BIG LOVE for animals. I think my love for animals is big enough it passed right on through to her. :)
Visiting Grandma at her classroom is WAY fun! She has blocks, crayons, stuffed animals, and new space to ADVENTURE in!
In fact, around here we think both grandmas are pretty awesome.
And so are stuffed animals. The more you can fit in your arms the better. All of her bedtime buddies are actually in this picture...and a spare elephant thrown in just for good measure.
I got a few Giving Reasons done this week too. First, I participated in a fun little thing going around on Facebook where five people sign up to receive a hand made gift from you through out the year. I'm really excited to make five different things and send them off! I spread a couple coupons around our local Safeway for people to find. With awesome sales AND coupons some folks ended up getting pretty sweet deals.
On Sunday I volunteered at the local spay and neuter clinic. This is my fourth time doing it and I LOVE IT! Working with and helping animals just makes me feel like me! I give the reversal to help bring the cats out of anesthesia and I give the vaccinations. We did 127 that day! This program has done over 7,300 cats in our area which is HUGE for this little town where animals aren't always the priority! Is there a program like this where you live? Ask if there's some way you can help or volunteer!
Last night I made some Amish Sugar Cookies out of the Gooseberry Patch, Christmas all through the house book. My mom got it for me for Christmas and I wanted to try something out of it. (It's an awesome book, you all should check it out, it has recipes, crafts, sewing projects, and MORE) These cookies were seriously scrumptious! They aren't too sweet, super fluffy, almost like a shortbread. Anyway, I bundled a few up in a bag and left it in my PO Box at the post office for the workers there. :) I'll post the recipe at the bottom. So that's our week in a nutshell. I can't wait to tell you all about the BIG changes that will be happening around here soon! Hope you all are having a fabulous Wednesday!
2 cups sugar, 1 cup shortening (I used butter), 3 eggs, 1 cup sour cream, 1 tsp. vanilla, 5 tsp. baking powder, 5 cups flour, 1.5 tsp. baking soda. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Mix together sugar, shortening, and eggs; add sour cream and vanilla. Gradually blend in remaining ingredients; mix well. Cover and refrigerate over night (I only did for an hour and they were fine). Drop onto ungreased baking sheets; flatten slightly with the bottom of a sugar-coated glass. Bake at 350 for 9 to 11 minutes; cool completely on wire racks. Frost (I didn't frost them). Makes about four dozen.
