Can I just start this post by stating that boxers on your head and sunglasses make a pretty cool fashion statement?! Vogue, look out! This baby girl may be gracing your cover very soon! :) When you live in area where there's not a lot to do and that's very pretty...you go on a lot of walks! So we all got bundled up, grabbed our big oaf of a dog, Hero, and went for a walk in the woods. They switched spots today. Usually Em sits in the front. Sitting in the back means that she gets to turn her little booty around in her seat and make funny faces at mom and dad the whole time. :) I just love how different our girls are. They are both their own little person, completely unique and beautiful in their own ways. Ok...the Columbia River is cold (like make-your-toes-go-numb cold) in July...it's NOVEMBER!! What can I say? This silly boy is crazy! But we love him! :) By the end of the walk we had two tired girls on our hands! Daddy snuggled with Bug... and Em passed out in her little chariot. Now onto Giving Thanks and Giving Reasons. Today I am thankful that we live in a country where we are given the freedom to vote. Sometimes the vote goes the way we want and sometimes it doesn't, but either way we are given a choice and a chance to speak our mind without fear of persecution. That's a pretty awesome thing. Pretty darn awesome. For my Giving Reasons today I headed up town and swung by our local bakery. Our bakery turns out some seriously yummy goodies and I REALLY hope they stay in business! I know it can be hard in a small town. Anyway, I bought one of their scrumptious sugar cookies, wrote a little note on the bag, and headed over to the grocery store to leave it on a random car windshield. While I was doing that, something else happened... I saw this dog. I saw her and her owner walking around town yesterday too. I asked the man what his dog's name was and if I could pet her. She reminds me so much of Jon's sweet childhood dog, Buddy, who we took care of in the last months of his life. He told me her name was Bella Jean (how cute is that) and that yes of course I could pet her. When you look in her eyes you just know that a kind soul lives inside that old dog body. So I went in the grocery store and I bought a can of wet dog food for her and a chocolate milk for her guy. (I don't like to call people 'owners' because, well let's face it, our animals own us) I came back out and handed him the bag and simply told him it looked like they both could use a refreshment. He was so thankful. He told me that Bella Jean is 14 years old and that he had another dog but it passed away four months ago. Him and Bella Jean have been walking around town with a rake offering to rake people's yards for some extra money. He thanked me several times and as I was walking away he said, "Jesus be with you". I walked away with tears in my eyes. I'm doing this Giving Reasons because I want to be able to give other people something little to be thankful for, but at the end of today I was the one who was thankful. That man and Bella Jean reminded me that it is good to be humble. Even when I think I've done enough, I can always do more. And even the smallest act can make a huge difference to a person, or an animal. So I will be keeping Bella Jean and her guy in my prayers and I hope you all will too! :) Happy Tuesday and Happy Election Day!
