Giving Thanks and Giving Reasons: Day 1

Well it's already November which blows my mind...but I'm really excited!! November is the month for giving thanks. Really, every day of the year should be, but people make a point to be thankful in November. So this month I am going to post one thing every day that I am thankful for. That's the "Giving Thanks" part. I'm also going to do one thing every day for someone else that will give them reason to be thankful. That's the "Giving Reasons" part. We already did our Giving Reasons today and it made me so excited to see how many fun things we can come up with to give to others this month. Hopefully we can extend it past Thanksgiving! Today I am thankful for my family. They are my world and I am reminded every day how blessed I am to have them. There was a time when I thought it might just be Jon and me forever, which would have been blessing enough, but then my two little miracles came along. Now my days are full of smiles like this...
play times like this...
and love like this. I am thankful. Crazy thankful.
For our first day of Giving Reasons we headed to Wal*Mart to fill a shoe box for a 2-4 year old boy. This is part of a program called Samaritan's Purse, Operation Christmas Child. They have been giving shoe boxes full of goodies to children in need all over the world since 1993 and this year they are hoping to pass the 100 million mark in total shoe boxes distributed. You simply fill your box with things for a girl or boy (you choose the age group), pay $7 shipping, and take it to a drop off location. (We live in podunk and there's one here so there should be one almost everywhere!) :) You can even pay for your shipping online which makes it possible to track your box and see where in the world it goes! Pretty awesome, huh? So we split into two groups. Em and I had $10 and twenty minutes to fill our half of the box and Jon and Buggy had the same for their half. We had SO much fun shopping for a boy!! :)
At the end of the twenty minutes this is what we had. We got all this for only $20 and it will make a world of difference for some little boy. I'd say that's pretty rockin' cool! We got a soccer ball, Lightening McQueen pj's, a Toy Story coloring book and crayons, two pairs of socks, a Frankenstein sippy cup (I'm pretty sure this would be a hit with any little boy :)), bubble gum, a Lightening McQueen bowl, a super hero rubber ducky, and three match box cars! We can't wait to see where in the world this box goes and we'll be praying for the little boy who receives it! So that was day 1...I have some really fun things planned for the rest of the month and I can't wait to share them with you all!
AND just for good measure let's throw in two cutie-patootie pictures. This is why they make shopping carts with seat belts!
And this is why they have five million blankets. So they can use them all at once and have comfy cozy nap times. :)
I hope you all have a happy November and take time to Give Thanks and Give Reasons!
