Decking The Halls

It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas around here! We're almost finished with our wrapping. I was pretty stoked to find Cinderella wrapping paper for the girls' massive kitchen. For now it's sitting up high in a place where busy little hands can't rip it open. :)
Both of our girls love their corn popper! They drag it around the house and make as much noise as is humanly possible. I kind of really love it because it's a toy from my generation and not one of those new electronic fancy pants toys. Ornaments are a big deal in my family! My brother and I have about a million Hallmark ornaments and I fully intend to make sure my girls have just as many! I just love looking at a tree with all that history. There always seems to be that one perfect ornament that represents your year and this year was no different. Two of these are now hanging from our branches. :)
My mom got the girls their baby's 2nd Christmas ornaments. While the Hallmark baby is cute and all, I do realize that I need to replace him with my two little hers!
I wanted the girls to have stocking they would treasure for years to come...so I got the bright idea to sew them! 5 hours later (thank goodness for my mom cutting and pinning or it would have taken me 10), a few uses of the seam ripper, and we had two pretty rockin' Christmas stockings! (If I do say so myself) I used batting in the middle and then quilted each one along the lines of the fabric.
I really do love how they turned out! They SO look like both of our girls!
Just an FYI...ruffles are a HUGE pain in the patootie! BUT...they're cute...so I guess that makes them worth it in the end! After all, I only had to sew them once and Bug and Em will use them for years.
IT HAS BEEN SNOWING AROUND HERE!! I actually happy...it's pretty right now and we get to have a white Christmas. Around January 1st I'll start to get real tired of it! :) The first night it really started snowing, Jon and I went for a walk. We built a tiny little snowman (like 6 inches tall...we didn't have gloves and out hands were cold!). His name is Ted. I know we're weird...I like it that way! By the next morning it had snowed so much that Ted was no more.
All this snow and two little munchkins...hmmm...I think that's the perfect recipe for a snow date!! If you recall, last time it snowed we took Em out in it for about 10 seconds and tragedy ensued...this little African was NOT thrilled about all this white stuff!! She warmed up to the idea with her little sister by her side though! Two cutest snow bunnies I've ever seen!
I heard she's my mini me...what do you think? :)
SEE?! We even got some smiles! Snow can actually be pretty darn fun...especially when it's up to your knees!
WOO-HOO! Pull faster Daddy!
Jon got the idea that it might be more comfortable for the girls if I rode in back...I didn't argue with the idea...and I quite enjoyed my free ride! :)
After the little ones were home safe and sound with Grandma and had their snow clothes off, we went up the mountain with our niece and nephew and sledded DOWN! I'm way too big of a baby. I can never keep my feet in the sled because it goes way too fast...which inevitably ends with me sitting half way down the hill in a sled packed full of snow.
This week for Giving Reasons I passed along a really great infant formula coupon, sent a gift certificate to my brother in law in Portland, send some of the girls baby toys to the chimps in Ellensburg, got some food together for our local homeless shelter, donated to the online Sandy Hook Elementary fund, sent a condolence letter to the school, and bought my niece coffee. Whew!! What have you all been doing for Giving Reasons? I would REALLY love to hear about it...leave me a comment! :)
Tomorrow is my mom's birthday and I'm SO excited to show you all what I'm whipping up for her! I can't tell you quite yet because she reads the blog. Happy Tuesday everyone! :)
